The inspiration for this book came from the gift of a butterfly ‘kit,’ complete with caterpillars, a large mesh cage, and information regarding care and butterfly release.  Pictures were taken to chronicle the stages of their metamorphosis, and in doing so, an observation was made that one was developing and changing about a day behind the rest.  Just as in the story, that butterfly made it out of the chrysalis, regardless of having fallen.  The day after the other butterflies were released, it emerged and was ready to fly!
